PostSubject: GHI's Hcg plus other things   Mon Aug 27 2007, 10:03

I have been reading posts on this site for many weeks now -first for preperation in beginning my diet.

Now, I have been on the diet for 8 days and did manage to lose 7 pounds but I do not know if that is from the Hcg or simply because I am starving myself.

After reading all these posts, I realise I did not gorge like I should have. Anyway....the question I have is this:

If I take a pregnancy test, should it come up positive or negative? GHI told me the amount in the body is so small that I would come up negative - unless I WAS pregnant which I am not. However, I read on here that you should test positive and if you don't then you have a bad batch of Hcg.

If anyone knows the answers...please tell me.

I also have to say because I thought I was just torturing myself through starvation and feeling lackluster with no energy and constantly hungry that last night I ate a lot. I figured if this is not working then I will have to get new meds and start from scratch - now I am wondering if I have blown it.

PLEASE ADVISE!!

A nurse said that if WE take a pregnancy test, then it would NOT show a positive result (too small of an amount)...However, you should be able to test the potency of the hcg right on the test strip. People on here have tried just dropping a small amount of the hcg on the strip and it comes up positive...just try it. :flower:

Your results are really good...are you hungry? How many iu's are you taking? You didn't blow it by eating too much once...we've all made mistakes...just start following the protocol again and your results will be great! cool 2

I was wondering...since I did blow it last night...do I just continue on the diet or start over? Should I start counting 21 days from today? I was planning on doing this for the 40 days anyway but will I reset my hypo still or did I blow it. DOn't really know how I should react to this setback.

You don't have to start over...you have NOT blown it completely. Just pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start following to protocol. 2 thumbs up

Harmony,

Thanks for answering me. I am taking 250iu's per GHI. I did retest like you said and it came up positive. Yes, I am hungry all the time. SO much so that all I think about is my next meal plus I just don't feel like I have very much energy.

I don't know if it makes any difference but I am able to inject IM via the shin muscle - it is just as easy as the stomache. I have done both IM and SQ.

Some people didn't ever have tons of extra energy...everyone is affected differently on this protocol. Some people dealt with hunger for 2 weeks, some had little to NO hunger, and a lot had it for just the first week. My suggestion is to stick closely to the protocol and the hunger should start disappearing cool 2 It's a little tough at first, but you can do this. The results are sooooooooo worth it!!!!:flower:

I just wonder if the difference between how people react has to do with the gorge days. It seems the posts I've read where people really gorged have done really well with hunger and energy where the people that didn't are like me - hungry and tired.

Also...does anyone ever use the chatbox?

Hi Lacox! Sorry to hear you are having such trouble with the hungries. One thing that helped me was using lemon in my water first thing in the morning. I was much hungrier my first round than second round. It may have been the gorge days because I didn't do well the first time, but really put in some effort this time. Also, spread your food out over the day instead of eating 2-3 items at a meal. And drink LOTS of water, more than you think you need.

I found I had a little more energy after about 10-12 days, but that was all . . . no big bursts except for a day or two.

No, you didn't blow it at all. You just pick up where you are and keep going. We are here for you!!! cheering cheering cheering

I have a couple of things to add.
First, I really feel for you since I experienced many of the same things last week. In fact as recently as yesterday, I was all set to throw in the towel. I felt like the HCG just wasn't working for me, and that I was literally starving myself. I even took the pregnancy test, and my urine was negative, but the HCG solution was positive. However, the solution we are injecting is ~10,000 times the amount that is needed to show as positive in the test. So a positive result for the solution only means that it has HCG in there, but it doesn't say anything about the dose. It could be too low, or it could be just right. We simply don't know. It is also possible that your body (or mine) is not responding to the HCG.
I didn't mind being hungry, and it didn't last too long (probably gone, or minimal by day 6-7. But I really minded when I could barely finish a sentence or a complete thought without stuttering or forgetting what it was I was going to say. No diet is worth losing brain cells over!
So what I did last week, starting about day 7 of VLCD were a couple of changes. I added a scoop of protein powder (not part of the Simeon protocol at all!) to my morning strawberry smoothie-30 cal. I also instituted a mid morning or afternoon emergency snack if I got to feeling weak or stupid. Usually it would consist of 2 slices of apple heavily dipped in cinnamon and a small (~1 oz) of chicken breast. I try to keep fruits separated by at least 4 h if possible. Surprisingly, when I total my calories at the end of the day, I am usually still in the 500 cal ballpark-probably owing to the fact that I don't eat the grissini or melba. I was able to finally get my energy back by doing this. I really, really thought about things after the pregnancy test results, and yesterday I skipped my injection, deciding that the HCG wasn't working for me, but I might as well just keep up my version of the VLCD diet injectionless. Then I began to notice that I finally really felt good-like my normal self only better! Was the HCG finally working? Who knows! But I decided to keep going with the injections through the 21 days, and just see where I get with it. I also did a little research over the weekend on starvation and VLCD diets (no HCG) and decided that I'm not in any danger of truly starving to death any time soon (in case the HCG really isn't working).
Bottom line-I think you really have to listen to your body. If you truly are hungry and not just missing food, and it doesn't get better in a day or two, then I think you should consider upping your calories a bit, space out your food intake (as many others on this board have suggested) and see how you feel. You will still likely lose weight, and from a nutritional standpoint, it is a pretty good diet, at least for the short term. I think the real challenge (for everyone) is phase III and IV, maintaining the weight loss. If we go back to our old eating habits, repaired hypothallumus or no hypothallamus, our old body problems will return. So for me, the key will be learning how to feed my body for optimal health (instead of eating for the pleasure of food-although this brings a little sadness to my heart for sure!)
Hang in there-you can do it!

Hi Lacox, I had hunger the first time for about 10 days but it wasn't ravenous hunger it was just feeling that I could definitely eat more and not being satisfied; not the feeling Simmeons (or KT) describes as feeling like you couldn't even finish your meal. Ha, I would have no problem finishing my meal, that is FOR SURE! I'd like to say one thing though, I wouldn't try experimenting as much as Cindy did adding the protein powder and the snack, etc. At least not yet. Try giving it more time and also make sure you are getting lots and lots of water and if you like tea. The juice of lemon added to your water is good also like Linda suggested. My advice to you and Cindy as well, is that what you were experiencing is probably not because you are losing brain cells but due to a Candida or other toxins that your body is trying to get rid of. Doing phase 1 or at least some of the suggestions can affect how well we feel during phase 2. When the body is cleansing itself from the sugars (as we are in phase 2) the candida is dying off too but it can cause many symptoms such as nausea, headaches, brain freezes (or forgetfulness), skin breakouts, etc. Give it time and your body will adjust and begin to cleanse itself of these toxins. Drinking lots of water and doing a sauna (if you have access to one) or a steam bath helps to flush the toxins from your body.

No one here has yet addressed the possibility that maybe ??? Maaaybe you are psychologically 'hungry'. A lot of cravings are set up in our mind. I know.. It has happened to me once or twice while doing this. I just had to really look at myself, the food I was 'hungering for' and make up my mind if it was Mind or Matter.

A lot of eating is by habit or rote, when one is overweight. I only mention this cause it might just be one more possibility.

I would litterally NOT REALLY be hungry, because the HCG was working.. BUT.. I had to Stop and THINK about it. Does this make sense to you?

Hope it helps.

Well, thank you all for your input.

As for the hunger, I was really physically hungry. However, since my binge last night...today has been really pretty easy. I haven't really felt hungry.

I hope that the Hcg has finally kicked in by now and I also know that if I need to do a second round...I will gorge like there is no tomorrow. It seems to be the key in avoiding all this "pain".

Hang in there!
It does get better!
I went through being really hungry for a while, now I have to remind myself to eat. I have even forgotten dinner until about 8:00 p.m. Then I just had an apple because it was really too late for me to eat. (I don't know if I was "supposed to do that or not....so what!) Things happen...
Just to make my point. It gets better really!
The pounds start disappearing and the hunger chills out alot.
Don't give up. Everyone's body is different. You'll find out what works for you, and then you'll run with it.... cheering
