PostSubject: fruit acid sensitivities   Mon Feb 25 2008, 12:25

Here's my achilles tendon on this post. It is the reason I didn't do the protocol last year. KT recommends two apples and two grapefruit a day on p1.

After two years of heavy NSAID pain meds (advil, etc) I developed a sensitivity to acidic fruits. Repeated eating causes constant gnawing, burning in my stomach that is only alleviated by something without acid. (co-passenger dropped his luggage out of the bin onto my head and neck - took two years to heal during adrenal exhaustion time of life.)

I started the protocol this time ignoring the grapefruit recommendations(I luv the stuff, used to eat it peeled from its sections like candy).

Now that I've had my two little green apples for the first vlcd day, along with probably a tiny pinch of chili powder on yesterday's lunch bison, my stomach is burning so much that there is no way to eat an apple again till I get my acid levels calmed down (just found out that green apples can carry higher acid count than sweet apples) 'Tis possible that my stomach is roaring with more acid after two very high fat days.

Perhaps someone else has had this occasion to overcome in their journey.

What do you say, may I just skip the apples for a while till I find some organic strawberries - I think they are less acidic? Perhaps I could eat a small second handful of green leafy lettuce?

Thanks a bazillion! greet 3

I think that's exactly what I'd do. I know the first week is the hardest to get through because most people still have hunger and cravings so most people eat everything on the daily menu, but I have skipped the fruit several times with no issues.

I'm sure that eating more veg would be good to do, they're so low in calories. I'm sure you'd be fine eating that instead. Trying the strawberries could hopefully help as well.

Victoria- try this remedy once a day or twice a day once in the morning, once at night 3-5/week. Wait 1.5 hours before or after eating anything.

One half teaspoon baking soda (no aluminum). 1 full lime or lemon. Let it fizz out first (sit maybe 3-5 minutes to do this). Add one half cup water. This drink should help calm the acid in your stomach and allow it to heal. You should notice that you are much more able to burb and feel much less bloated.

To actively repair the digestive tract, try L-Glutamine. You can try 3000-5000mg per day or take about 10,000 gram per day until you notice improvement in your stomach. L-Glutamine will help repair your digestive tract and especially good at this when taken at 10,000mg or above.

I hope that you find those strawberries!!!! And if all else fails, get them frozen. They still taste pretty good!!!

Thank you so much my friends. Don't want to whine, but I am really encouraged and relieved.

Helen, I didn't know if Dr. S had a method with the apple or not and didn't want to interfere with this equation for success.

Did take a handful of baby romaine to replace the apple calories allowed.

Dawn, l-glutamine is so good, I will get some ordered. I need a few other aminos for family, so this is timely.

Organic sugarfree strawberries. I'll take 'em frozen! I'll sprinkle stevia w/ vanilla on my little quarter piece of melba toast and let the juice melt through it and pretend that they are strawberry shortcakes. I am so motivated!

Second thought: I have no gaseous pressure in my stomach like people do with indigestion. When I try alkalizing water, it gives me a paradoxical reaction - major acid compensation. What do ya' think...would the baking soda take me down the same route?

All the best, V

V- I am not sure. Try a sip?!? if you are feeling brave. If it at all bothers you, stop. Teh lemon/lime baking soda water is also suppose to give major support to the adrenals in addition to calming a burning stomach. Maybe try the l-glutamine first and see if it helps heal. And then try the lemon/lime/bakings soda water to see if you get a boost for your adrenals. Are you taking b vitamins as well? Your adrenals get a lot of fuel brom the Bs.

I used to have burning acid issues. Ruled out bacteria. I am pretty sure it was due to stress. Started taking 1-2 tablespoons of organic ACV and within aout a month no stomach acid issues. Haven't really had a problem since.

I am not sure what to do to help you if your stomach was damaged by the NSAIDS other than the l-glutamine in mega doses. I will do some more research and try to dig some stuff up for you. It is just time-comsuming to find the jewels among all the crap that is available on the internet. So it might take me a day or two!!!!

I know of a clinic here that uses peaches and apricots in their version of the protocol. You would have to compare calories to get the right portion, but they seem to have success with weight losses.

Oh wow, Linda, peaches are a little easier. Apricots are more alkaline too.

Dawn: I'm going for the lime mix ta'morrow.
The acid pump compensates for a missing gall bladder when the fat increases, from what I understand.

L-glut is fabulous for sugar cravings. I didn't think about the stomach.

On the b's - yup, no doubt, turn them up a notch

Thanks so much!
