heating up food

Ok i have to take lunch to work but i know we can't microwave so how can i heat it up? I;'ve been eating cold chicken. thanks Vickie

I usually eat my chicken cold too...it does get old. My friend takes her crockpot to work with her and I often use a mini George Foreman grill. But...sometimes I do resort to the microwave...just for 30-45 seconds if I absolutely have to. I think we have to do what we can... :sunny:

I will heat my chicken up in the am at home on the stove top and then tupperware it and not put it in the refer at work/school, it is at least room temp at lunchtime. The microwave KILLS all the good things in foods, the good bacteria and enzymes, vitamins in the foods are ruined. You will not get sick from eating cooked chicken that has been reheated or even cooked from raw a few hours before eating it if it has been stored for a few hours outside of a refer. I have been doing it for years with zero side effects. Another option would be to buy one of those $40 walmart toaster ovens if you just gotta have hot.

Make the chili recipe and take in a thermos for lunch...i do it with chicken and beef. I actually prefer the chicken and I add hot sauce to it....I've had it almost daily since its so easy. (and yummy)

If you have to use a microwave make sure that you use glass and not plastic or paper plates. You make be killing most of the good stuff still, however you wont be ingesting more toxins that the plastic and paper impart.
Never heat milk in the mw it makes some of the amino acids toxic.
The window for food safety is 4 hours between 41 and 135 degrees.
I think a thermos is a wonderful idea!

I've read WAY too much to eat anything from a microwave.

I would like to put this idea out there... look at how many foods (by publicly traded corporations) rely on the microwave. Even diet foods, WW, Jenny etc. There is no way microwaves are going to disappear, even if they are horrible for our health.

On a more practical note:
If you don't have a toaster oven at work, what about slicing your chicken thinly and putting it in parchment paper inside a baggie then submerge it in boiled water? Because the baggie is plastic, I wouldn't want it directly against my food, but you can heat small amounts of things this way. I used to heat all my daughter's organic baby food in a glass dish, sitting in another larger glass dish full of boiled water. Yes, I had to wait for 5 minutes or so for it to warm, but it was easier to boil a kettle then start a saucepan on the stove (less washing up).

Good luck with finding some options for a hot meal, I think I will be going the salad and cold protein route myself.
