PostSubject: Oranges????   Thu Jan 17 2008, 12:44

I just printed out a new copy of the Pounds and Inches off of the hcginfo website and this copy (unlike my original that I printed on R1P2 in June) says we can have an orange as one of our fruits?????

I have a few questions...
Does anyone eat oranges?
Why do you thing KT omitted these from the book?
I'm a little concerned that the P&I manuscript is showing up "editted" on the internet...any thoughts?

Hi Andrea, I personally have eaten oranges, tangerines & the little 'Cutie' oranges with no problems on P2. Another difference for instance is tuna, it wasn't allowed on the original P & I book but now they pack it in water & I've also eaten that several times on P2. That may be were the editing comes in, just over time since the P & I came out there have been a lot of changes in foods over the decades since it was written. I don't really know the definate answer of course, that's just been my experience.
Great Job on your success so far by the way, you look GREAT!! cheering :flower: cheering

I have had them a few times with no consequences. I looked them up on nutritiondata.com and one florida orange was 85 calories, 21 grams of carb, 17 of which were sugars. A medium apple was 95 calories, 25 grams of carb and 19 grams sugar. The only thing I noticed was that an apple had quite a bit of fiber. I did read somewhere though that some people noticed differences with the losses with the oranges and cut them out.

In my first round I did not have oranges for the same reason as you, it wasn't listed in the P&I version I had. I did start to have them on occassion in my 2nd round without any problems. I'm in my 3rd round now and I had one last night and still loss.. I won't have them often, but they are a nice break from apples and strawberries. I don't like grapefruit..

Hope this helps.

You are not the only one. I've often wondered, but who can say without an original copy of P&I..

I eliminated the grissini early in my first round because it caused me to have a 10 day stall even though it is on the original (I think).. At least I told myself that was the reason.

I wish we knew everything exactally as it was writen, but unfortunately we have to make do with what we have.

Supposedly the copy of P&I available on KT's website is the original. I copied it from there and it has oranges in it. KT didn't include it in his book. I don't know why.

Grissini is the only "bread/cracker" mentioned in that copy of P&I (1 per meal or used through the day). But many on the forum don't use it because they lose better without it, like you.

So, LOL, I thought it was the other way around. I thought KT added oranges and then I was pretty sure I read on this board somewhere that he took it out later becasue most people had problems with oranges. I think one of the yahoo boards has a link that you can download a scanned copy of the actual original document that was published. I think I'll check that out and see if I can find it, download it and see what it says. I'll let ya'll know what I find out.

:sunny: Hi all,
I downloaded the scanned version of P&I and it includes oranges, strawberries, apples and ½ grapefruit as the fruit choices. KT omitted them.
The "starch" in grissini/Melba toast was in the original and, I believe, has a purpose. I have eaten two Melba toasts daily through 2½ full courses and have been quite happy with my results. :2 cents: This program is biochemistry-related and I believe personally that KTs advice is less reliable that the man who spent his life figuring it all out, so I stick quite closely to the original. I know lots of people make changes that they feel are equal, but that is one thing that Dr. S. actually found quite irritating (judging by his text), people and their calorie books wanting to make changes. What looks good on paper is not the same thing experientially, and he treated thousands of people and had actual data which he turned into this Protocol. Good enough for me. I notice that all of us try to apply data from other diets to this one, when we know that diets don't work ~ habit I suppose. Anyway, if anyone wants to original protocol, PM me and I'll send it. The only editing I did was correcting spelling errors that are caused by scanning (n is often misread as ri and vice versa, etc.).
Blessings,
Sharin'

Here's another "yes" added to the others. The copy I have is a pdf file that is a scan of the original book and oranges are listed there.

I've used oranges only on this round, mainly because they are so large. I have used clementines (a type of tangerine) on all rounds with no problems.

While I agree with Sharin' that we need to stick as closely as possible to Dr. S's protocol, there are many foods available now that weren't available to him. When I was young I had never heard of a kiwi or jicama. Now you see them in most grocery stores. Same goes for vegetables, meats, etc. Whoever heard of an ostrich burger in the 50s or 60s?

Also, I'm sure he used only foods that were native to the area where he practiced. The delivery system was not what it is today.
