| Anyone with type 2 doing this protocol? I saw an old post but haven't seen anything new. My mother-in-law and her best friend are interested but the friend is a Type 2 diabetic. She is considered obese which Dr. S mentioned makes it tougher or riskier, but is not on a lot of meds. She uses the glycemic index to control her sugar now but has tried different diets for years and usually ends up gaining a lot of weight. Especially on WW! Anyway I told her I would ask all of you about it and see what everyone's experience was.
She is 65 years old or so and also has fibromyalgia. I think the protocol would be great for her but I know she would have to monitor her sugar pretty closely. I don't know how supportive her doctor is, but they're not generally real open to this anyway. I did read an excerpt from Dr. S about it, but was looking for some people's experience/opinions. Thanks! _________________ [url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/weight-loss/wixGkZd/]

| I agree with you, this protocol would be very good for her. Yes, she would need to monitor her sugar level as she already does, so it could only help! The fibromyalgia really responds well on this protocol as well. I have talked to a few people who no longer have to take any medications for their diabetes now that they have lossed the excess weight and are now eating healthy. _________________

| As I've read on a couple of other forums, those with type2 stabelize very quickly and get it under total control. It is the type 1 that he said was so difficult because they don't produce insulin and are dependant on injections. My daughter-in-law won't/can't do it because of that. _________________

| Hi I'm a TypeII Diabetic and have hypertension and obesity with that so concerns for cardiac problems. That's why I have searched so long for this protocol. For me, this seems to be the answer. I was concerned about my sugars and had set a protocol for myself taking my levels a.m., and 2 hrs. after every meal on the gorge days for 3 meals. They were very high but I knew the highest I could go. I still took my oral diabetic medication during those days. On my first 3 VLCD days, I continued taking levels morning and 2 hrs after lunch and dinner. Stopped meds after the first VLCD day. My sugar levels remained slightly higher than my usual until about day 7and then slowly lowered every day. Today I take my sugar levels only in am and I'm at normal levels and lower than I was when I was on my meds. This protocol is great! :cheering:Read Dr. Simmeons' manuscript on the area of diabetes. This may be a little late info but I hope your mother-in-law considers the protocol cause losing weight for a diabetic is a big part of the key. All the best to you all _________________

| That is fantastic Opaline! Hopefully, once you are at goal, you will have it completely controlled and no need any longer for the meds at all!... I'm happy to hear your success, I had an issue with my blood pressure prior to my first round and my doctor wanted to put me on meds but I asked her if we could wait to see how I do lowering it naturally through diet and exercise. She was ok with that and I'm happy to say my bp dropped about 40 points in the first round. _________________

| Opal, that is fantastic!!! Exactly what I've been reading everywhere else. My bro-in-law has type2 and did the protocol for 2 weeks. He was off meds totally! Then he quit and is back on them. Of course he has a LOT of weight to lose, just doesn't want to go to the bother. _________________

| My sugar levels have been good and even great. However i'm having trouble with BP if any of you have any comments. With my hypertension I've been on meds for about 4yrs. I didn't think I'd get a Dr. who would agree to my stopping my meds for this protocol so in Jan ,I began the Dash Diet (for decreasing BP)which brought my BP to normal and made my family Dr. very happy. This diet is encouraged by the American Heart Association, but I couldn't do it for life (too restrictive) Anyway, I went on the gorge days and my BP was 180/96 but my doctor had assured me that a few days on holidays in this way would be OK On the VLCD days my BP kept going down nicely every day, down to normal levels like my sugars, but the last few days, it's been 102/60-108/68. Then this morning it was 94/54.... a little too low for a hypertensive. It always goes up some during the day and I feel fine but I sure don't want it to continue going down. It was up to 102/56 later. I'm taking salt in my diet and my Dr. is unavailable til Tues. Any suggestions out there. I'm a retired RN and know what to watch for. With no symptoms, I'm not worried. Just would like to get it up a little. Thanks for any help _________________

| Thanks evryone for the great info. I have passed on all the info and hopefully my mother-in-laws friend will give it a try. Opaline; congrats on the bs levels!! Those are usually so tough to get down. Wish I had some suggestion for the BP, but sounds like you're doing well.Blood volume and water weight really affect the hypertensive, have you tried a bit of salt when it gets too low? Increase salt, increase water- holding, increase blood volume, which increases preload volume return to the heart and increase BP? I have no idea if that would work or if you could control it, but it seems I read somewhere.....? Keep us informed, I will be interested in what you do! _________________ [url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/weight-loss/wixGkZd/]

| Opaline, perhaps you could cut your medication for the bp down by just a bit to help with it. I would do that for a day or 2 to see if that helps to raise it some and then when the doc gets back he/she can help you decide how much to reduce it. _________________

| Thanks Sus138 and sofarsogood. Appreciate your reply. So great to have this famiy I'm not on hypertensive meds any longer. After 5 years of them, I was able to discontinue them by doing the dash diet in Jan. That diet is specifically to reduce BP and very different from this protocol. My BP was completly normal during those 4 months unless off the diet, in which case it would shoot up.
I've been drinking more today and I had already increased my salt at meals so thanks for that Sus138...sounds like good information that makes sense. I've also had a couple of cups of coffee which increases BP but can't take more cause I want to sleep tonight.
I feel pretty confidant that my body will take good care of itself. I expect there's a reason why it's where it's at and that it'll settle itself out in the next few days. It has what it needs and I need to let it use it's wisdom. Something I learned from GrandmaSmitty in some reading I did today...thanks for your great wisdom Grandma Smitty. _________________
