| I went to buy the Bragg's Liquid Amino and when I asked where it was the guy working there told me it has MSG in it.
He said it's a secret but it does.
Does anyone know about this or can someone confirm yes or no?
Thanks!

| I don't see how it could have msg.........they are "Kosher" certified and have been around for almost a 100 years. Some one would have let that info out before now. They even use GMO-free soybeans to make the stuff. I can't see why they would put msg into it after going to all that trouble. _________________

| I think that's a mistake. They've been around for years and their ingredients are right on the bottle. If it were true, we would have heard about it a long time ago and I believe they'd be in a bit of trouble. If someone says "don't tell this cuz it's a secret" isn't that pretty much a guarantee that it will be told everywhere? I say go ahead and use it. Probably a bunch of us are (me too) and we are doing good.... Hope you are too |

| | Well, I have questioned it myself because it has Hydrolyzed vegetable protein, or HVP, which is produced by boiling cereals or legumes, such as soy, corn, or wheat, in hydrochloric acid and then neutralizing the solution with sodium hydroxide. The acid hydrolyzes, or breaks down, the protein in vegetables into their component amino acids. The resulting brown powder contains, among other amino acids, glutamic acid which consumers are more familiar with as MSG, or monosodium glutamate. It is used as a flavor enhancer in many processed foods. According to the FDA, hydrolyzed protein is used to enhance flavor and contains monosodium glutamate. When added this way, the labels are not required to list MSG as an ingredient. |

| I just went to the FSIS website for some more understanding of what the law requires. Do not think for a moment that they take our best interests into consideration and don't assume if it doesn't say MSG on it that you're not getting it: Are MSG and hydrolyzed protein related? Yes. MSG is the sodium salt of glutamic acid. Glutamic acid is an amino acid, one of the building blocks of protein. It is found in virtually all food and, in abundance, in food that is high in protein, including meat, poultry, cheeses, and fish.
Hydrolyzed proteins, used by the food industry to enhance flavor, are simply proteins that have been chemically broken apart into amino acids. The chemical breakdown of proteins may result in the formation of free glutamate that joins with free sodium to form MSG. In this case, the presence of MSG does not need to be disclosed on labeling. Labeling is required when MSG is added as a direct ingredient.
Can hydrolyzed animal or vegetable protein be identified as "natural flavoring" on the label? No. FSIS regulation requires that animal or vegetable proteins must be specifically identified in the ingredient statement on the labels. The source of the protein must also be disclosed. On the label, you will read "hydrolyzed wheat protein" or "hydrolyzed milk protein," not just hydrolyzed protein.
What Federal regulation defines what can be listed as a natural flavoring on the meat and poultry label? On March 1, 1990, FSIS published the final rule, Ingredients That May Be Designated as Natural Flavors, Natural Flavorings, Flavors, or Flavorings When Used in Meat or Poultry Products. The rule did the following: • Defined the ingredients, i.e., spices, spice extractives, and essential oils, that may be declared as "natural flavors" or "flavors" on meat and poultry labels. • Required more specific listing of certain ingredients. Substances such as dried beef stock, autolyzed yeast, and hydrolyzed proteins must be listed on the label by their common or usual names because their purpose is not just for flavor. They are flavor enhancers, emulsifiers, stabilizers, and binders. • Required that the specific source of hydrolyzed protein be indicated on the label, for example, "hydrolyzed soy protein" or "hydrolyzed whey protein." |

| Thanks SoFar!!!! Very informative!!! It is becoming difficult to find anything at all without msg hidden in it in some way. Hmmm, we may have to quit buying anything at all that wasn't just grown and harvested.
Say . . . . isn't that how it was originally intended???? _________________
