PostSubject: Lip Care??   Tue Oct 23 2007, 13:40

WAAAH!! :sad3: My lips are SOOOO chapped and I finally couldn't take it anymore so I put some chapstick on. I don't know if chapstick is okay or not.

Also, what's mineral oil? I don't wear lipstick, so my lips get so dry they crack and bleed and burn. What has everyone else been using?? Any adverse effects? help!

One of our members has a friend who is a chemist. He says that today's skin care products are designed to stay in the skin and will not be absorbed into the system to bother the p2 diet or weight loss. I used clean healthy lotions all during my last p2, lost 43 lbs and never had a dry skin day.
Back in Simeon's time (my early time, too!) all lotions had lanolin in them. This is a fat product produced on the skin of a sheep. It is WONDERFUL for the skin, causes a lot of alergies these days, and it IS absorbed into the system. So, as long as you aren't dealing with lanolin, your skin care products should be fine to use. Take care of your skin!!! No bleeding :sad3:

No way!! I won't eat it...just want to put it on my severely DRY hands! With the cold weather my skin has taken a toll! Maybe I'll try some tomorrow and see if it has any ill effect. I'll be sure to let you know if I do.

THANKS!!! :greet 2:

That is great! Good to know that we can use it on our skin with no negative results. Can't believe you are using that yummy coconut oil on your lips and don't lick it all off! WTG! :lol2:

:P

Isn't there a coconut oil that we do eat? I haven't tried it yet but was told and thought I read in the book to use it like butter on toast etc. Is this right or is there a different kind of coconut oil? I get so confused on all the things you have to do on this program! :flower 2:

Like most things of this type, there is food grade and non-food grade and non-food grade. I've got a gallon of excellent coconut oil for cooking. It smells heavenly! I've never tried it on toast, but I bet it tastes wonderfu!

I don't know if the non-food grade tastes quite the same, but probably. It would be hard for me not to lick off even if it just smelled good :wink 4:

I have also heard of coconut oil and mineral oil (main ingredient in Baby Oil).

The coconut oil that I use on my face IS food grade! I wonder if I'm using the wrong thing! Oh well, it's been working wonders on my face, but the rest of my body doesn't seem to like it too much and stays really dry. I've been using my regular lotions alternating days (maybe every three or four days) because I get really bad rashes from how dry my skin is that burn and itch. It hasn't hindered any losses yet, but I just got a new brand of lotion yesterday I'm not sure about. It said it has lanolin in it, and that was one ingredient I was REALLY trying to stay away from. We'll see. It just works so much better than the other stuff...my hands a LOVING me today! They don't look 100 years old anymore!

What brand lotion is it? I am looking for something even better for my hands. Thanks!
Food grade coconut oil is ultimately the best. I have always thought, "If you can't eat it, don't put it on your skin" and have heard that line a lot lately.

I thought we were supposed to stay away from lanolin because that is the one oil that is readily absorbed into our skin?

Linda, the brand is Lubriderm but it is SOOO bad. I was reading the ingredients and just thinking about how much cancer I'll be giving myself if I continue to use it. I've been SOOOO dry lately though and my fingertips and everything are catching on stuff. I just don't know what I should do. That list that said what NOT to put on your skin looks pretty similar to the ingredients list on the lotion. :what!: I'm not sure if I should try to return it or just take it to the office bathroom and let everyone else use it. I of course got it at Costco, so I have two 19.6 oz bottles and a smaller bottle, probably 8 oz. My skin does feel nice and soft today though... confused 2

Ewe...that's what I thought too. Costco was CRAZY yesterday (probably Thanksgiving preparation!) so I just grabbed it and threw it in the cart because I'd used it before and it was so nice (borrowing someone else's).

I don't know...seems to work well, but be very bad indeed. Wish it weren't that way though.
