PostSubject: VIBRATION PLATE TRAINING   Fri May 30 2008, 03:42

This has taken South Africa by storm, as with the rebounder, the reasons for using the vibration plate are very positive. A 10 minute work out is equivalent to an hour hard training in the gym.

My question is, does anyone on protocol have experience with passive exercise, does it also influence water retention and therefore weight loss?

I found this information on the NET. It is also called a power plate. You stand on a machine holding a bar and it vibrates like mad, there are also various moves you can do to concentrate on various muscle groups.
The max time you can handle the machine is apparently 10 minutes per day. You can either go to a salon or buy one for home, the salon here charges R300 (divide by 7.6 to get Dollars) for a month of 10 minute sessions. To buy one for home use, costs anything from R3999.99 to R50 000.00

What drew me was the increase in bone density, as well as all the other benefits.

What is Power-Plate?
Power-Plate generates a natural reflex

A stretch reflex occurs when a doctor taps your knee with a hammer causing your quadriceps to contract and your foot to kick forward. Similarly the Power-Plate uses the body’s natural reflexes to cause rapid, involuntary muscle contractions in response to the multi-dimensional vibration.

Think of it as jumping off a step and the muscles reacting to the impact of hitting the ground, and then imagine doing so at up to 50 steps every second. In this way, results that are usually very hard to achieve with conventional exercise, are easily achieved with the Power-Plate.

Power-Plate increases the acceleration factor (f=m x a)

Weight resistance training has for years been the only way to become physically stronger and looking
good. Weight training increases the force that one needs to resist in order to become stronger.

Power-Plate increases gravitational force exponentially by increasing the acceleration factor as opposed to mass as per the equation above. This puts much less strain on the ligaments and muscular-skeletal
system resulting in shorter, less exhausting sessions.

The lowest machine setting effectively doubles the effect of gravity meaning that weights are not required to increase the downward force during exercise. For example, a 70kg person doing a squat has to carry a 60kg barbell in gym to generate the same force as on the Power-Plate with no weight, on the lowest setting.

Because it works on a reflex basis, almost 100% of all muscle fibres are recruited against less than 50%for the average person engaged in conventional training.

Effects

Increased metabolism and accelerated weight loss:
Power-Plate® will intensify fat burning and improve the resting metabolism.

Improved strength and muscle tone:
Power-Plate is especially beneficial in strengthening the stablisers, core and deep tissue which is difficult to train with conventional methods.

Cellulite and cosmetic consequences:
Power-Plate loosens up coagulated tissues and adhesions, breaks down fat cells, improves the mobility of tissue layers, breaks down cellulite, reinforces connective tissue and improves skin tone.

Activated circulation and improved lymph drainage:
An immediate and substantial increase in blood circulation as a result of the muscle pump effect feeds the muscles and cells with essential nutrients and oxygen, and removes waste products at a very high rate through the lymph drainage system.

Increased bone density:
Research has shown that Power-Plate stimulates the growth of bone tissue, reducing and even reversing the effects of osteoporosis. Combined with stronger muscles and improved sense of balance, it reduces the risk of falling.

Increased production of repair hormones, faster recovery and anti-aging effects
The intense training stimulates the body to produce high levels of human growth hormone testosterone and IGF-1, which are essential in repairing and regenerating the body, burning fat and keeping the body young.

Elimination of stress effects
Power-Plate decreases cortisol levels, while it stimulates the release of the “feel-good” hormones serotonin and neurotrophine, which make us feel good and support our thinking processes

Improved flexibility and range of motion: reflex relaxation of muscles, intense circulation and warming of the muscles and tendons enhances flexibility and range of motion.
Scientific Studies on the POWER-PLATE Include:

1.

2.

Strength gain: 15 min of PP training produces better strengthening results than 90 min of gym training.Cellulite: an average reduction of 25,68 percent was achieved after a total of 11 hours of Power Plate training
3.

4.

Osteoporosis: Significant increase in bone density within 6 months of training. Study publishedin the journal of bone and mineral research

Lower back pain: pain reduction of 65% is achieved in 3 months of PP training. This is largely as a result of the strengthening of the spinal stabilisers and abdominal muscles.

It sounds very intriguing! The point of not doing stressful exercising on p2 is because the body is already in a kind of hyperdrive with the hcg in the system. You are releasing toxins which puts a certain stress into the picture. When you exercise muscles that are not used to it, they become "damaged" (this is why they become sore). Damaged muscles hold water for up to 3 days while they repair. Over-all, the method might be really good for you, but I would steer clear during p2. Keep your exercising to your rebounder or casual walking just to keep you metabolism up a bit if you want.

If you PM me your email address I'll send you a really great e-book on exercising!

Karin, I've heard a bit about the power plate and it sounds great but wow, those are expensive!! I think if you do the monthly sessions it would be a lot easier on the pocketbook!... I would try it if they had a place around here. I have kept up a light exercise program while on the protocol but nothing strenous, just walking, rebounding, swimming and an occasional 15 minutes on the elliptical machine. Perhaps I could see faster results if I did not not exercise but I feel exercise is important for health reasons not necessarily for the weight loss. Bone density, immune strenghtening, circulation and improved lymph drainage, attitude improvements... just to mention a few factors that helped me to chose to continue.
