| Sure is a hard way to lose weight. But glad it is over and you have insurance (I only say that cause I don't). One of the main reason I had to lose weight and learn to eat health. Keep up the on your weight losses. This could be the beginning of a Great Year for ya. |

| Deb -FL: Loosing 10 pounds was not hard, only because I was not hungry. It was hard to eat even the soft foods. My tongue is not working normally yet, still too swollen in the back of my throat, and hard to manipulate food in my mouth while eating. Try eating with your tongue in one spot - not easy to do. The only insurance I have is the Limit of Liability (0%) with Cook Co Hospital. I need to get back there soon and re-apply. It's a pain in the pa-tu-ty to go thru the system, but, considering the care. I cannot get Medicare because I am not 65 yet, nor do I have a youngster living with me at home (under 18 yrs). I tired getting Medicaid too, but I keep getting turned down. I am stuck between a rock and a hard place on that one. Illinois has a health program that I looked into to purchase. It would cost me $700/month with a $1500 deductable. ***GAG*** Yea, like I got that laying around! That would be a second mortgage payment for me! I guess we are better off waiting for the so-called free health care in 2014. (ggggrrrrr)
Deb-PA: yes the Dr's did a nice job of closing me up. Staples came out this morning. Now I can put shea butter on it to help heal it along.
Kelli: I'm not cancer free just yet. Still waiting the final pathology reports - but, all looks good!
Over all today, I felt better, a bit more energy (probably eating more food helps that). I will wait just a bit longer before I get back into FFP. Maybe start back at it on Monday. I just want to concentrate on getting better and stronger, so I can get back to work. |

| Ya know... I got 5 birds under the age of 18 (in human life)! In bird life, that means three of them are 30 - 35 yrs, one is 7 yrs and the other is about 1.5 yrs.
Yes, I have 6 birds now. Teaser (old man) is 21 yrs (or 105 in bird yrs) Tidbit is 7 yrs (or 35 in bird yrs) SnoBall & Bandit are 6 yrs (or 30 in bird yrs) **New Additions: Pretty Boy is 1.5 yr (or 7 in bird yrs) Sunshine "Sunny" is 8 mos (or 1.5 in bird yrs)
Sunny is one of SnoBall's babies. She is such a sweetie!
I aquired Pretty Boy as a trade with one of the babies. He is a white faced male with possible birth defects. Especially his left leg and toes. A few of his toe nails look a bit twisted, has a problem keeping two toes in front an two in back on a perch. But, he does shuffle along the perch well. He has some difficulty climbing the cage sides and manipulating his little body. He is not the best at flying and his landing skills have yet to be honed. He lands (or crashes) ackwardly with his wings slightly spread out. He will even crash into walls and fall down. He is a very gentle bird, but still fearful of my hand. (His squak is worse that his bite )
Sometimes, I feel sorry for this little guy. A human emotion of pity. Something birds know nothing about. I watch this little bundle of feathered-inspiration make his way from side of the cage to the other, to get to the feeder and water. If he tires or struggles along the way, he just stops, rests, then presses on. If he is hungry, he makes the journey to the food dish and then back to where he wants to hang out. I don't see him sitting on the perch and wasting away because it is hard to get to the feeder. He just relies on his instincts - I am hungry/thirsty - need to get to food, no matter what!
I slowly introduced Pretty Boy with the other birds after a visit from the vet and clean bill of health, the girls first, then the other two boys.
Right now, I have all 6 birds in one cage and all get along really well. The others do not pick on Pretty Boy, despite his handicap. In fact, I think he likes the girls!
After having him for 4 months, he is looking healthier and starting to build more strength in his gimpy legs and toes. He climbs the cage better, walks on the grating better and enjoys the others company! Altho, we still gotta work on the flying and landing!
OK, enuf rambling... Got stuff to do today. My appetite is slowly increasing and my swollowing is getting easier. I do have some fluid and pressure in my right ear. Hope that the fluids dissapate by next week. |
